AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was sentenced to 30 years for soliciting child pornography, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

David Leonard, 25, agreed to the prison term in exchange for entering a guilty plea to the felony offense. Judge David Kliment accepted the plea, officials said Friday.

Aurora police began investigating Leonard after the mother of the 15-year-old victim found Facebook messages between the two, officials said. The messages were sent over the course of about six months, during which the man asked the girl to record herself engaging in sexual acts, then send him the videos, Assistant State's Attorney Amanda Busljeta shared in court.

Leonard, whose address is listed in jail logs as being in the 800 block of 21st Street in Aurora, also met with the girl in person more than once, officials said.

In addition to his prison term, Leonard is required to register for life as a sexual offender. He was credited for the 581 days he served in the Kane County jail and made eligible for day-for-day sentencing, meaning that through good behavior, he can have one day taken off his sentence for each day served.

"We always say that child pornography is not a victimless crime, and unfortunately in this case, that statement rings true," Busljeta said in a statement. "I want to thank the victim and her family for being brave enough to come forward and help hold him accountable."
