Aurora Police Shoot Car Driven By Man 'Claiming To Be Law Enforcement': PD
A 911 caller reported that a man was following him in his car, making statements pretending to be a law enforcement officer, officials said.

AURORA, IL — Aurora police shot the vehicle of a man "claiming to be law enforcement" Tuesday morning near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and South State Street, officials said.
At about 9:33 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a "driving-related altercation" near Jackson Street and East Benton Street. The caller said another driver was following him, displayed a gun and made statements pretending to be a police officer in an attempt to get the driver to pull over, according to a news release.
Police located the cars at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and South State Street and connected with the person — a 48-year-old man — referenced by the 911 caller.

"During the encounter that followed, a responding officer discharged their firearm once, striking the individual's vehicle," police said, adding that no one was hit, and no injuries were reported.
Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed the man was not injured in the shooting, officials said. Police determined the man had "no affiliation with any law enforcement agency" and took him into custody, pending a further "comprehensive investigation," according to the release.

Per protocol, the officer who fired the gun was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The Aurora Police Department's Deadly Force Investigative Team launched an investigation into the officer's actions, officials said.
