Aurora Student Wins State Championship For 100-Yard Breaststroke Race

An Aurora resident who attends Oswego East High School clinched the Athletes with Disabilities 100-Yard Breaststroke State Championship.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora high school student is a newly minted state champion for breaststroke swimming.

Addison Miller, an Aurora resident who attends Oswego East High School, won the Athletes with Disabilities 100-Yard Breaststroke State Championship Nov. 15 at the Illinois High School Association's Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals in Westmont.

Miller also finished in second place in the 200-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

"I want to thank my family, friends, and everyone for supporting me," Miller said. "It took a lot of hard work, but winning the championship was very fun."

To commemorate her win, Mayor John Laesch honored Miller with the Mayor's Award of Excellence at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

"This is such a huge accomplishment for Addison," Laesch said. "Her hard work and dedication have truly made Aurora proud."

Miller finished second in the Athletes with Disabilities 100-Yard Breaststroke in both 2023 and 2024 before clinching the state championship this year. She also broke a Move United National Swimming Record at the 2024 Hartford Nationals for the 200-Yard individual medley as part of the female 17-and-under SM8 division, a category for swimmers with physical disabilities.
