Aurora's Veterans Monument Is Home To Five More Names

The names of five deceased local veterans were added to Aurora's Veterans Monument at Philips Park over Memorial Day weekend.

AURORA, IL – The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council held a ceremony Sunday morning, May 28 at Phillips Park to add the names of five deceased local veterans to the Veterans Monument.

The names added were U.S. Army veterans William R. Brown and Hans W. Brunner, who went to East Aurora High School; Air Force veterans Richard L. Ward, who went to West Aurora High School, Karl R. Renz who went to Marmion High School and Peter C. Daneau, who went to Roncalli High School.

Members of the council brought together dozens of families throughout the area, as well as families from eight states, for the ceremony. There was representation from four different ROTC groups, local dignitaries, a plane flyover and a rider on a white horse to pay respects, according to the City of Aurora.

About 150 people from the community attended the ceremony, according to the City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council.
