Call Or Text 911; Don't Facebook Message In Emergency
The Aurora police received an unusually large amount of '911' Facebook messages requesting a police response.

AURORA, IL - The Aurora Police Department received an unusually large amount of "911" Facebook messages requesting a police response over the last holiday weekend, according to a recent Facebook post by the Aurora Police Department.
Those who left the messages should have called 911 or the police department's non-emergency number, the post said. The social media accounts are not monitored all the time and should not replace calling 911 to request for police, fire or medical assistance, police said.

The post also reminded citizens that if found in a situation which prevents picking up the phone to call, it's also possible to "Text-to-911." But, texting to 911 should only be used when one absolutely cannot call 911, police said. They have a motto: "Call When You Can, Text When You Can't."
There is also the MyPD app.
