Kane County residents can secure a 10-by-15-foot plot of land in Aurora to grow gardens during the 2022 growing season.
AURORA, IL — With summer just about here, Kane County residents once again have the option to purchase a plot of land in the Kane County Fit for Kids community gardens.
A total of 150 individual 10-by-15-foot plots of land are located between 1320 and 1330 North Highland Avenue in Aurora. For $17, residents can secure land for the 2022 growing season, which lasts through Oct. 31, officials at the Kane County Health Department said Monday.
Each family will be responsible for planting, weeding, watering and harvesting their garden. To help with the process, water will be available on-site.

Fit for Kids Gardens started more than a decade ago in an effort to reduce the rate of childhood obesity by giving residents an affordable way to grow fresh fruits and vegetables, according to the health department.
"[The project] stimulates social interaction, strengthens bonds, produces nutritious food, and conserves resources," officials said.
