AURORA, IL — Parent involvement plays an important role in academic achievement and empowering students to reach their full potential. In our district, many of our parents are making a positive difference, including our very own EASD 131 School Board President Juan Sifuentes.

On July 7, 2025, the School Board recognized another very dedicated parent, Liliana “Lily” Olayo, who served as the EASD 131 Bilingual Parent Advisory Council President for the last 3 years and whose daughter just graduated from the East Aurora High School Class of 2025.

For the 2024-2025 School year, Olayo was selected to serve on the Illinois State Board of Education Bilingual Parent Summit Committee where she provided input on how to improve the annual statewide summit.

The summit provides a rich mix of information about issues of critical importance to parents from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. Top speakers are joined by experts and panels on such topics as pathways to academic success, enhanced parental participation in schools, bilingual education programs, and so much more.
