Heroic Aurora Mailman To Light City's Official Christmas Tree
"Not all heroes wear capes; some carry mailbags," Mayor Richard Irvin said of Jaylen Lockhart, who will light the city's Christmas tree.

AURORA, IL — A heroic mailman will have the honor Friday night of lighting Aurora's official Christmas tree to usher in the holiday season.
Lockhart, a 26-year-old resident of Aurora, was chosen for the responsibility after he helped an injured man during his afternoon shift Nov. 16.
While carrying out his routine mail delivery service, he noticed a senior citizen who seemed unsteady while walking his dog. As Lockhart looked in the rearview mirror, he saw Guy Miller, 78, fall and injure his head.

Lockhart "quickly sprang into action," according to city officials. He flagged down neighbors to stay with Miller while he ran to the man's house to alert his family.
"Jaylen's quick-thinking, selfless actions helped to save the day," Chief Communications and Equity Officer Clayton Muhammad wrote in a news release. "Guy is bruised, but will be ok."

Lockhart will join Mayor Richard Irvin for the tree lighting taking place during the Winter Lights Fest, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at 23 E. Downer Place with a parade and is followed by a countdown to light the Christmas tree and a drone show.
"Not all heroes wear capes; some carry mailbags," Irvin said in a statement. "Jaylen's actions have ensured the Miller family has a wonderful holiday season. So it’s only fitting that Jaylen flip the big switch to light our Christmas tree and usher in the holiday season."
Irvin and the City Council will present Lockhart with additional honors during Tuesday night's City Council meeting.
