How Kane County Voted In 2024 Presidential Election

The margin between the two presidential candidates in Kane County was slightly wider in 2020 compared to this year's race.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Although the United States elected former President Donald Trump back into office as its 47th president, more than half of Kane County voters backed Vice President Kamala Harris.

In Kane County, 72.6 percent of registered voters — 221,350 ballots were cast out of a total of 304,232 registered voters — turned out for the historic election between Trump and Harris.

In the presidential election, with all 292 precincts reporting, 52.88 percent of people, or 117,053 votes, cast their ballot for Harris and running mate Tim Walz, while 44.27 percent, or 97,983 votes, went to Trump and running mate J.D. Vance, according to unofficial results from the Kane County Clerk's Office.

Some voters chose to go the independent route, with 2,942 people, or 1.33 percent, voting for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and running mate Nicole Shanahan. Others wrote in Jill Stein, Chase Oliver and Peter Sonski, receiving a respective 715, 161 and 101 votes. Two other write-in candidates, Claudia De La Cruz and Cornel West received 68 and 54 votes, respectively, the clerk's office reported.

The margin between the two candidates in Kane County was slightly wider in the 2020 election. Four years ago, local voters backed President Joe Biden by 56.14 percent, or 130,166 votes, versus Trump's 41.74 percent, or 96,775 votes. With 291 precincts in 2020, 234,723 ballots were cast from a total of 318,506 registered voters, making for a 73.7 percent turnout, the clerk's office reported.

When it came to Illinois's advisory questions, Kane County voters were in favor of all three propositions.

In the first, seeking voter opinion on whether candidates who attempt to interfere with the duties of election workers should face civil penalties, 84.38 percent, or 186,771 votes, said yes, while 10.84 percent, or 23,994 votes, said no. In the second, about a potential constitutional amendment that would raise taxes on income over $1 million and use the proceeds for property tax relief, the margins were tighter, but 55.25 percent, or 122,288 votes, were in favor, and 40.18 percent, or 88,948 votes, were against. In the third, asking voters if health insurance plans should be required to cover in vitro fertilization as part of pregnancy benefits, 67.96 percent of the county, or 150,434 voters, were in favor, and 27.46 percent, or 60,778 votes, were opposed, unofficial tallies showed.

In other races, voters generally leaned blue. Here's a look at the results:

  • Heather Brown (Republican): 12,672 votes, or 36.02 percent

43rd District, Illinois House

  • Anna Moeller (Democrat): 10,940 votes, or 66.57 percent
  • Donald Puckett (Republican): 5,495 votes, or 33.43 percent

49th District, Illinois House

  • Maura Hirschauer (Democrat): 3,273 votes, or 60.86 percent
