Kane County Launches Debt Recovery Program
Kane circuit clerk and state comptroller are seeking $1m in unpaid courtroom fees.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The Kane County Circuit Clerk's Office is launching a local debt recovery program to collect more than $1 million in unpaid fines, fees, costs and assessments, according to Kane County Connects. The office has partnered with the Illinois Comptroller to get the job done. Clerk Thomas M. Hartwell said he doesn't expect to collect all of it, but will collect some of the past due court debts to go toward ongoing operations.
"[...] the Local Debt Recovery Program provides for the offset of tax refunds or other payment made by the state to parties with qualified debts owed to the Circuit Clerk’s Office," reported Kane County Connects.
Kane County Circuit Clerk Thomas M. Hartwell said the program provides for state assistance in the collection of debts owed to the Circuit Clerk’s Office.
