Labor Day Enforcement Campaign By Aurora Police Underway

AURORA, IL — A traffic safety enforcement campaign is underway for Labor Day in Aurora, police said.

The Aurora Police Department kicked off the effort on Aug. 16, and it's slated to end during the early morning hours of Sept. 3, encompassing Labor Day.

The campaign aims to reduce impaired driving and other hazardous driving behaviors, such as distracted driving and failure to use seat belts, using slogans including "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "If You Feel Different, You Drive Different," "Drive High Get a DUI" and "Click It or Ticket." The Aurora Police Department is teaming up with Illinois State Police and other local enforcement agencies for the effort paid for using federal dollars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"We want our community to understand the importance of making smart decisions behind the wheel, on Labor Day and every day," Chief of Police Keith Cross said in a statement. "While our goal is voluntary compliance, drivers should expect strict enforcement of all traffic laws on Aurora roads every day."

When celebrating, police encourage people to designate a sober driver and not to let friends or family drive drunk, high or impaired.

"Even a small amount of alcohol, cannabis or other impairing [substances] can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe," police said in a news release.
