Lehnertz Avenue Christmas Display To Open For 73rd Annual Season

The drive-thru-style Christmas display, recognized as the oldest free one in Illinois, will feature religious and secular decorations.

AURORA, IL — The Lehnertz Avenue Christmas display, recognized as the oldest free Christmas display in Illinois, is reopening in just a few days.

The beloved display will open Dec. 15 for the 73rd annual drive-thru-style event featuring lights, lawn signs and cutout figures of religious and secular figures, including Charlie Brown characters. The show will run daily from 5-10:30 p.m. until Jan. 3.

On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, lights will glow all night.

To commemorate the new season, Fr. Godwin Asuquo, pastor at Aurora's St. Joseph Catholic Church, will bless the nativity crib, located on the northwest corner of Lehnertz Avenue and Ohio Street, at 6 p.m. Sunday. Lisa Hardekopf, the president of the nonprofit association that sponsors the display, will welcome visitors.

Visitors should enter Lehnertz Avenue via Sheridan Street, go through Lehnertz Circle and exit via Ohio Street.
