Motorcycle Passenger Dies After Aurora Crash: Police

Police said a 29-year-old woman was killed after the motorcycle was unable to stop to avoid a Chevy Suburban that was making a U-turn.

AURORA, IL —A woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle died following a Wednesday afternoon motorcycle crash, Aurora police said.

At 5:02 p.m., Aurora police responded to a crash at Butterfield Road and Savannah Drive. Officers determined a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban was heading east on Butterfield when the driver attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway. According to police, an eastbound 1990 Harley-Davidson was unable to stop and struck the driver's side of the Suburban.

A 30-year-old Batavia man was driving the motorcycle, and a 29-year-old Cortland woman was a passenger. Police said the driver was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest off the roadway.

The woman was ejected into the westbound lanes of Butterfield, where she collided with a vehicle, according to police. Both were taken to an area hospital by Aurora paramedics. The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, Aurora police learned the woman, identified as Nicole Ross, had died of her injuries.

The driver of the Suburban, a 37-year-old Naperville woman, and passenger, a 37-year-old man from North Aurora, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene to investigate the crash, and Butterfield Road remained closed for several hours while traffic investigators reconstructed the scene. Members of Aurora’s Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene to assist with the road closure and traffic control.

The crash remains under investigation by APD’s Traffic Division, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Traffic Division at 630-256-5330.
