New Aurora Dog Daycare Opens In Former McDonald's Building

AURORA, IL — The former McDonald's building in West Aurora Plaza is no longer unoccupied. A state-of-the-art dog daycare marked its official opening — and the city's first ribbon cutting of the year — in the space Saturday.

Hounds Town Aurora, located at 2011 W. Galena Boulevard, offers overnight boarding, full-service grooming and a pet taxi service. As a fully interactive daycare, dogs will have opportunities to interact with others of their own size and temperament in a natural pack environment, according to the company.

"Whether you’re going to work or on a vacation, or if your pup just needs a pampering, Hounds Town Aurora has you covered!" city officials said in a post on Facebook announcing the opening.

Dogs aren't the only furry friends welcome at the shop. Cats can also be boarded at Purrington Villas, a cat-specific facility where they can take naps and relax away from dogs.

A franchise part of Hounds Town USA, the new pet hotel and spa in Aurora is the company's first location in Illinois. Nationwide, there are locations across 16 states, including Florida, Michigan, Georgia and North Carolina.

The company's founder and owner Mike Gould, who began his career as a founding member of the New York Police Department canine unit, opened his first Hounds Town in Port Jefferson, New York, in 2000, according to the company website.

The Aurora franchise will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
