Brother Rice Combines Principal/Athletic Director Roles, Taps New AP

CHICAGO, IL – Brother Rice High School has appointed current principal Bob Alberts as its new athletic director, creating a combined principal/athletic director position.

A distinguished alumnus from the class of 1985, Alberts brings nearly three decades of experience and dedication to the Brother Rice community. His expanded role reflects the school’s commitment to fostering both athletic achievement and academic excellence.

Brother Rice has also tapped John J. Rolence as the new assistant principal and dean of academic success. Rolence is a dedicated educator and leader, serving as an English teacher for 13 years and as division leader for English and world languages since 2017.

In these roles, Rolence has played a pivotal part in curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and student achievement. His appointment highlights the school’s focus on strengthening its academic programs and providing students with a rigorous, innovative learning experience.

“Bob Alberts has been a pillar of leadership at Brother Rice for years, and we are thrilled to see him continue his impact in this expanded role,” said Mark Donahue, president of Brother Rice. .

Rolence shared his gratitude and excitement on his expanded position.

"I’m honored to take on this new role at Brother Rice, a place that has meant so much to me throughout my career. I’ve been fortunate to work with incredible colleagues and students over the years, and I look forward to continuing that work in a new capacity,” he said. “My goal is to ensure that every student is challenged, supported, and prepared for success beyond high school. I’m excited to collaborate with our faculty, students, and families to build on Brother Rice’s strong academic tradition.”

Alberts called Rolence, his new assistant principal, an “exceptional teacher, a dedicated educational leader, and an inspiring role model for our students, faculty, and the entire Brother Rice community.”

“His passion for school improvement drives his commitment to guiding our institution toward greater success,” Alberts added. “I look forward to collaborating with John as we continue to enhance our school's growth and achievement.”
