Chicago Cop's Good Deed in the Middle of a City Street

A law enforcement officer's lesson in how to knot a tie, Chicago style, gets a lot of love on Blue Lives Matter Facebook page.

A video of a Chicago police officer surfaced on the Blue Lives Matter Facebook page on Friday. This one shows a white police officer standing in the middle of the street with black men ... and he’s showing them how to properly knot a tie.

There’s the Windsor knot, the Half-Windsor knot and apparently, now, the Chicago Style.

Advisory: Cursing from both the officer and the men receiving the tie-tying lesson can be heard in the clip.

Recent days have seen the release of a police shooting video that prompted several street protests, including one that shut down Michigan Avenue on Black Friday, and demands for the resignation of the mayor, the Cook County state’s attorney and the police superintendent. Last Tuesday, the mayor fired the police superintendent. Activists, politicians, clergy and retired police officers are saying the culture and leadership need to change in the Chicago Police Department. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has formally requested a Department of Justice investigation of the department.

As this Facebook video suggests, however, life on the streets of Chicago is anything but black and white when it comes to police officers interacting with the public.

Sometimes, community policing just means being friendly and doing someone a favor. Like this.
