Leo Choir Performs for America's Got Talent Judges and America's Vote in Tuesday Semifinal Round
Choir members performing to earn vital college tuition funding; Hoping Tuesday's performance vaults young men into championship round
One week after Leo High School senior Derrick Davis threw the game-winning TD pass and made a game-saving interception in a victory over Amundsen, the former quarterback turned receiver missed Saturday’s loss to St. Patrick’s.
Following last week’s “star turn” gridiron performance, Davis -- Leo’s special offensive weapon – returned to Southern California with the Leo Choir to rehearse for the upcoming appearance Tuesday on “America’s Got Talent,” along with football teammates Blake Moore and Bernard Freeman.
What a triumphant arrival it will be for the three choir members if they return for Friday’s Homecoming game against conference rival Marion Catholic at Saint Xavier University with another “star turn” performance in the semifinal competition in California.

The Leo Choir will compete again on the national stage Tuesday, September 16th at 7 p.m. CST on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” to advance to the championship round, with support from the judges and America’s voters.
Leo High School hosts Tuesday an “AGT SemiFinal Watch Party” in the school auditorium for the Leo community to view the competitive performances on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, in its 20th season. Leo will be hoping their semi-final performance vaults them into the championship round with approval of the judges and America’s vote.

According to school officials, support for Leo’s “world renowned” Choir has been building since last spring, when the student singers and Choir Director Mrs. LaDonna Hill electrified the America’s Got Talent judges and a national viewing audience.
“This is about more than just a performance,” said Dr. Shaka Rawls, Leo principal and a 1993 graduate of Leo. “It’s about showcasing the spirit of our city, the strength of our mission and the brilliance of our boys.”
The entire Leo community has been rallying support with watch parties, donations and, now, preparations to cast votes, according to Dan McGrath, president of Leo and a 1968 graduate.
“Mrs. Hill has been able to draw the best performances from these young men, and Tuesday should be no different,” McGrath said. “The Leo Choir intends to earn the votes here locally and win over the hearts of a national viewing audience.”
As Leo Catholic High School approaches its 100th anniversary, this milestone performance underscores the school’s mission to uplift and inspire.
“Our Leo Choir Boys embody the spirit of brotherhood, resilience, and excellence that has defined the institution since 1926,” Dr. Rawls said. “Leo’s young men are proud to represent the South Side of Chicago. They believe that being a member of the Choir gives them the ability to dream even higher.”
