Arrest Made After Bolingbrook Cop Hit By Vehicle
A Bolingbrook man is charged with hitting an officer with a stolen car then setting off a chase that ended in gunfire.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook police say an injured officer who was struck by an offender driving a stolen car was released from the hospital to his family's custody late Wednesday night, and the suspect — identified as a 27-year-old Bolingbrook man — is now in custody. Police opened fire on the offender, identified as Johnathan N. Mosley of the 100 block of Roberts Road, wounding him, after police say hit an officer who had been responding to a fatal crash on Boughton Road and fled the scene.
Mosely also treated and released before being taken into custody. Police say Mosley was driving a vehicle stolen out of Aurora at the time of the crash. Police told Patch that preliminary information indicates Mosley was injured by gunfire and also hurt in the crash.
Mosley was booked into the Will County jail late Thursday afternoon on charges of aggravated fleeing, aggravated fleeing causing less than $300 in property damage, four counts of aggravated assault involving a motor vehicle, aggravated battery to an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Bolingbrook police were investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle at 5:12 p.m. Wednesday at 1188 W. Boughton Road when they say the stolen car drove around emergency vehicles blocking the scene and struck an officer before speeding off. Officers chased the fleeing vehicle and caught up with the driver at Washington Street and Naper Boulevard, where the suspect reportedly crashed.
"While they were attempting to stop the vehicle, shots were fired by officers," a Bolingbrook police spokesman said.
The officer was also taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the incident remains under investigation by the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force.
The Bolingbrook cop is not the only law enforcement officer struck by a vehicle while responding to a crash this year in Illinois — far from it. At least 16 Illinois State Troopers have been hit while investigating vehicle crashes on Illinois roads so far in 2019. Three troopers have been killed, including two who were fatally hit during a three-day period in March.
State police have repeatedly urged drivers to obey the Move Over Law, also known as "Scott's Law," and use caution when approaching emergency vehicles on interstates and roads. "The Move Over Law was enacted in 2002 in memory of Lieutenant Scott Gillen of the Chicago Fire Department," state police said. "Gillen was struck and killed on December 23, 2000, by an intoxicated driver on the Dan Ryan Expressway while assisting at a crash scene."
