BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The late Bill Reid, who was a longtime Village Trustee, was known to many as "Mr. Buffalo Grove." Reid, who died in 2000, was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove.

That organization recently announced resident Carolyn Lewis as the recipient of the 2024 Bill Reid Community Service Award, which recognizes long-term commitment to the Buffalo Grove community.

Lewis was officially presented with the award at the Jan. 5 Buffalo Grove Village Board meeting. According to the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove, Lewis works as a social worker at Aptakisic Junior High School, is an active member of the BG Singers, and serves as secretary of the Vernon Township Mental Health Board.

Lewis was selected for the annual honor in recognition of "her selfless efforts to support others in her community by running after school programs, collecting and distributing items for those displaced by the war in Ukraine, and her ongoing support of the Buffalo Grove Rotary's annual Holiday Food Box program."

"I love living in Buffalo Grove, I love working in Buffalo Grove, and everything I do is for and around Buffalo Grove," Lewis said. "Being in the spotlight for something is not really my thing, it's very appreciated though, and I will continue to serve."
