Carjacking Suspect Fatally Shot By Concealed Carry Holder: Cops

Police said the suspect rear-ended a BMW driver's car before pulling out a gun.

CHICAGO, IL — Police say a concealed carry license holder fatally shot a carjacking suspect early Friday in the Loop. Just after 3 a.m., police said a 22-year-old driving a 2019 Volkswagen rear-ended a 2015 BMW in the 0-100 block of Ida B. Wells. The driver of the BMW, a 41-year-old man, exited his vehicle to see the damage and when he went back to retrieve his cell phone, the 22-year-old Volkswagen driver approached with a handgun and demanded his keys while pushing him into the vehicle, police said.

Both men were inside the vehicle when the BMW driver retrieved his handgun and shot the 22-year-old suspect in the head, according to police.

The 22-year-old was taken to Stroger hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The BMW driver was being questioned by Area Central detectives. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
