The first Urdu library in the United States was inaugurated in Elgin
In the City of Elgin, the Al-Khalil Library, the largest Urdu library of its kind, opened to the public
The Al-Khalil Library, the largest Urdu library of its kind, opened to the public on February 16, 2025, at 5 p.m. in the Chicago suburb of Elgin.
Hundreds of Books were donated by a number of persons to the newly opened historic Urdu library.
The program has been hosted and arranged by the Center for Urdu Literature in Chicago.
Professor Masroor Qureshi served as the program's moderator. The Event begins with a recitation of the Holy Quran, and then it features poems by Abid Rashid on the Prophet Muhammad.
Sources told the news media that this library has almost Five thousand different Urdu literary works. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Taufiq Ansari Ahmed, who was the chief guest.

According to Majeed Ullah Khan, the library's founder and president, the institution aims to encourage young people to read books, develop positive thinking, and partake in healthy activities. In honor of his late father, Khalil Ullah Khan, this library was established. In South Asia, he was a renowned academic. He urged the Chicagoland community to put in endless effort to help the library grow.
Majeed Ullah Khan, added that the goal of this Urdu library is to raise the educational level of the pupils by promoting the value of reading in society and extending the tradition of book reading.
Seniors and young readers were quite interested in the varied selection of books on display, and the event was well welcomed.
