7 Residents Saved From Fire At Nursing Home In Westmont

A fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. at Westmont Manor Nursing Home on Ogden Avenue, leaving 22 units uninhabitable.

WESTMONT, IL — Seven residents were saved from a fire that broke out at Westmont Manor Nursing home early Wednesday. The blaze left 22 units in the facility uninhabitable, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were called to the nursing home at 512 E. Ogden Ave. just after 4:30 a.m. after a fire started in one of the units. Fire crews were able to keep the flames contained, but "heavy smoke" had spread to the second floor of the building, per a news release.

Seven residents were helped to safety from the second floor. Residents affected by the fire declined medical transport, fire officials say.

The fire was fully extinguished around 5:15 a.m. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
