Downers Grove Park District Recognized for Environmental Initiatives

The park district was awarded an Earth Flay on March 21 by the School and Community Assistance for Composting and Recycling Education in DuPage County.

The Downers Grove Park District was awarded the Earth Flag at the March 21 Park Board meeting in recognition of the District’s environmental initiatives.

The award-winning Earth Flag Certification Program was developed by SCARCE and funded by DuPage County to help businesses and organizations become more environmentally responsible and achieve recognition for environmental efforts.

The Park District has demonstrated its commitment to the environment through the adoption of district-wide environmental guidelines and environmentally-friendly operational initiatives, as well as projects including the Streambank Stabilization at Lyman Woods, permeable pavers at Doerhoefer Park, native landscaping at the golf course and area parks, and many others.

Kay McKeen, Founder and Executive Director of SCARCE, and DuPage County Board Members Liz Chaplin and Pete DiCianni issued a proclamation and awarded the Earth Flag to the Downers Grove Park Board and District’s Green Committee.

The Downers Grove Park District is dedicated to providing a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open space and natural areas that respond to the articulated needs and desires of residents.
