New Sushi Restaurant to Open in Downtown Downers Grove

Sushi House will open its seventh location this spring at 950 Warren Ave.

A local sushi chain is set to open its seventh location this spring in downtown Downers Grove.

Sushi House, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, will open at 950 Warren Ave. in the site formerly occupied by 2 Toots Train Whistle Grill. The strip mall also houses Scarletti's Italian Kitchen, Every Day's a Sundae, Zano Salon and Spa, Borrowed Earth Cafe and State Farm Insurance.

The business already has five locations in Illinois—Westmont, Naperville, Wheaton, Oak Park and La Grange—and one in Leawood, KS. The original site in Westmont opened on Ogden Avenue in 1995.

"We're looking forward to coming to Downers Grove. It's a great location and nice community," Johnson said.

The liquor commission found Sushi House to be qualified for both licenses. Members said were happy to see an application for a sushi restaurant in downtown Downers Grove.

"We're excited to have an established name come to town," said Alice Strelau, chairman of the liquor commission.

Johnson said he hopes to open Sushi House by late May or early June.
