Village Calls for Historic Landmarking Requests
Do you believe your home has historical significance in need of preservation?
Downers Grove, IL - Downers Grove residents are invited to preserve historically significant properties through the village’s landmarking process.
The primary steps for landmarking a home include setting a meeting with the Community Development staff, submitting an application, attending a public hearing and being considered before the village council, according to the village’s historic preservation page.

The preliminary meeting can be set by calling 630-434-5515.
The application process is part of the implementation of the modified Historic Preservation Ordinance, according to the village. The updated ordinance was created through community participation in the Architectural Design Review Board, the ADRB Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Historic Preservation and the Village Council meetings.

According to the village, the revised ordinance includes:
- Simplified nomination standards
- Allowance for contiguous and thematic historic districts
- Reduction of Certificate of Appropriateness regulations
Improvements now available include:
- Simplified application process and easier applications
- Elimination of application fees
- Updated information on the Historic Preservation page
