17-Year-Old Girl Charged In Death Of 2 South Elgin Students

Aanomeya Henry faces reckless homicide charges after officials say she was under the influence of marijuana when she collided with a truck.

ELGIN, IL β€” A 17-year-old Elgin girl has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with the death of two South Elgin High School students in a crash that took place in August, the Kane County State's Attorney announced on Thursday.

Aanomeya Henry has been indicted by a grand jury and faces two counts of reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, and aggravated reckless driving, State's Attorney Jamie Moser announced.

Investigators determined that Henry was driving a Blue Honda Civic carrying three passengers on Aug. 31 on Route 25 when police said she failed to yield to an oncoming dump truck while making a turn. The dump truck made contact with the Honda, which was pushed into a cornfield. Two students, ages 16 and 17, were killed in the crash and a third person was seriously injured, police said.

Police determined that Henry was under the influence of marijuana when she got behind the wheel of the vehicle and also did not have a valid driver's license. The State's Attorney's Office is not naming the victims of the crash out of respect for their families.

A judge ordered that Henry will remain out of police custody until she faces trial but must not leave the state, must abide by a 10 p.m. curfew, must refrain from using drugs or alcohol, and must submit to random drug testing. The judge also determined Henry is not to have contact with the remaining victim of the crash and is not permitted to drive without a license.
