Suburban Doctor Sexually Assaulted 16-Year-Old With Disability: Authorities (patch.com) — Elgin residents are being alerted after authorities charged a suburban doctor with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old with an intellectual disability at an Elgin hotel pool. The physician, who worked at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin before being fired, is detained while awaiting a Dec. 29 court date, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
   

2. Elgin Police continue investigation into ICE activity on Maple Lane (kanecountyreporter.com) — Elgin officials are asking residents for tips and video as police continue investigating Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity that occurred December 6 on the 1600 block of Maple Lane. Preliminary findings are posted in English and Spanish on the city website, and community members can submit information by phone or upload media through an online evidence portal.
   

3. New Kane County satellite office opens Wednesday in Elgin (chicagotribune.com) — A new Kane County clerk satellite office opens in Elgin on Wednesday, giving residents local access to marriage licenses, passports, election services, and vital records without driving to Geneva. Located at 2170 Point Blvd., it will also house health and court services, with extended Wednesday hours and convenient access from Route 20, Randall Road, and I‑90.
   

4. Illinois libraries can now stock opioid overdose reversal drugs (journalstandard.com) — An Elgin high school student helped inspire new Illinois rules letting public libraries stock and administer opioid overdose reversal drugs starting January 1, 2026. That means Elgin-area libraries will be required to keep naloxone or similar medications on hand, with trained staff ready to respond quickly to suspected overdoses under a new statewide standing order.
   

5. IL Cocktails-To-Go Law Will Take Effect In 2026 (patch.com) — Starting July 1, 2026, Illinois bars and restaurants—including those in Elgin—can permanently sell cocktails to-go, as long as drinks are sealed and clearly labeled. Championed by Sen. Cristina Castro of Elgin, the law also creates a new craft distiller license to help small producers grow and self-distribute limited amounts of spirits.
