2 Chicago Men Plead Guilty, Sentenced In Kane Co. Armed Robberies

According to the Office of the Kane County State's Attorney, the two armed robberies took place in the same night.

KANE COUNTY, IL — The Office of the Kane County State's Attorney announced Thursday two Chicago men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in two May 2017 armed robberies. In a release, officials said on Feb. 15, Damarcus D. Gilmore, 20, of the 8000 block of South Ridgeland, Avenue, agreed to a sentenced of 21 years in prison in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for pleading guilty to two counts of armed robbery, and battery. Officials also said Brian D. Ormond, 20, of the 12000 block of South Throop Street, agreed Thursday to a 15-year prison sentence in IDOC in exchange for pleading guilty to two counts of armed robbery.

According to a release, Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Christine Bayer said in court that shortly before midnight on May 15, 2017, the two men went into a Speedway gas station in Hampshire, as Gilmore was armed with a loaded handgun and Ormond was the lookout. Bayer said Gilmore pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded cash, and the men left the scene with over $500 in cash, cigarettes and lottery scratch-off tickets.

The men then went to Boone County, then back to Kane County and stopped at a Thornton's gas station in East Dundee, where Gilmore pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded cash, Bayer said. The men left with more than $700 in cash, lottery scratch-off tickets, the clerk's cell phone and cigarettes, before being stopped for a speeding violation on I-90 and were arrested after Illinois State Police troopers noticed the stolen property, Bayer reported.

"Two young men armed with a gun rob two separate gas stations and steal cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets, and are now going to prison for a very long time," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said, in a release. "It’s unfortunate but it’s the right outcome for their foolish and criminal decisions. My thanks to ASA Bayer, the Hampshire Police, East Dundee Police and the Illinois State Police trooper for recognizing that what appears to be a simple traffic stop often is a much more dangerous situation.”

According to Illinois law, state's attorney officials said the men are eligible for day-for-day sentencing, as Gilmore receives credit for 631 days served in the Kane County jail, and Ormond receives credit for 637 days served in jail.
