1. Repair work progressing on Elgin's First United Methodist nine months after microburst strike (chicagotribune.com) — Nine months after a microburst tore open its sanctuary roof, First United Methodist Church in downtown Elgin is steadily rebuilding and hopes to be back in the sanctuary by Easter. In the meantime, worship has continued at temporary sites, while the church maintains soup kettles, shelters, and partnerships with local nonprofits, even as it faces a significant repair bill and new fundraising needs.
   

2. Elgin News Digest: South Elgin HS student wins ECC math contest; School District U-46 promotes three administrators (chicagotribune.com) — Elgin-area students and schools are in the spotlight, with a South Elgin High School dual-credit student winning Elgin Community College’s math integration contest and U-46 promoting three administrators. New principals are set for Legacy Middle School and Illinois Park Elementary in Elgin, while former Elgin city manager Sean Stegall has resigned from his later role in Cary, North Carolina amid controversy.
   

3. Kane state's attorney seeking more info before deciding on charges in ICE incident (chicagotribune.com) — Elgin residents are at the center of a high‑profile review of an ICE operation where protesters were pepper‑sprayed and 11 complaints were filed with local police. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser has asked Elgin police for more investigation before deciding on possible aggravated battery or trespass charges, and is also drafting changes to Illinois’ TRUST Act to clarify how local officers can keep the peace during future ICE actions.
   

4. DHS detained these immigrants but now they are free again. How their cases are chipping away at the Trump administration's deportation plans (cnn.com) — An Elgin mother, Veronica Escobar, was suddenly detained in a Trump‑era immigration sweep despite deep roots in the community and no apparent criminal record, then later freed after a federal judge ruled her detention unlawful. Her case, and those of other parents seized around Chicago, are part of a growing wave of court challenges that are chipping away at aggressive federal deportation tactics.
