AAUW Elgin Branch is pleased to announce the 2025 Scholarship Recipents.
Valeria Hernandez will be receiving the Betty Medearis Scholarship. She lives in Elgin and will be graduating from ECC this spring. She will be attending Northern University in the fall, majoring in education. She has already been selected as a Golden Apple Scholar and has been paired with top teachers in Illinois to participate in a hands-on summer school program with Chicago Public Schools and St. Xavier University. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and TRIO organizations at ECC, and is the youngest member of Elgin’s Hispanic Network.
Maricarmen Paredes Lopez will be receiving the Brooke Transue Legacy Scholarship. She lives in Woodstock and is attending Aurora University, majoring in healthcare administration. During high school, Maricarmen was an Illinois State Scholar and AP Scholar with Honor and Distinction. Now, at Aurora University, she has maintained a 4.0 average while also participating in Aurora’s chapters of Latin American Student Organization and the Healthcare Administration Organization.
