Fire Causes $10K In Damages Inside Duncan Avenue Garage

The Elgin Fire Department said the garage was locked at the time of the fire.

ELGIN, IL — The Elgin Fire Department responded to a call of a fire in a detached garage at a home in the 800 block of Duncan Avenue at 5:29 p.m. Tuesday. According to a release from the department, the homeowner reported they saw smoke coming from the area of the garage roof and immediately called 911. Elgin Fire Department crews arrived within five minutes and determined the fire was confined to the garage, as smoke was seen coming out of the garage's first and second floor, the department said.

Crews were able to control the flames within 14 minutes of arriving to the scene, according to the department. No one was inside the locked garage at the time of the fire.

According to the release, no one was injured, however damage and loss to the garage from the fire are estimated to be $10,000.

The cause is under investigation, the department said.
