According to The Chicago Tribune, state police reported both men weren't wearing seat belts and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
ELGIN, IL — A Hanover Park man was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car on northbound I-90 at Lawrence Avenue, and hit two concrete barriers, The Chicago Tribune reported, according to officials. The news report said both the driver, 27-year-old Kevin Ness and his passenger, 26-year-old Jimmy Ruiz, of Bloomingdale, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and both had to be extricated from the silver 2005 Toyota Sedan, according to Illinois State Police.
According to a news release from Trooper Woodrow Montgomery, a state police spokesman, troopers with the state police were called around 2:15 a.m. Sunday to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a silver 2005 Toyota Sedan on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood. According to The Chicago Tribune, Montgomery said the driver lost control of the car for an unknown reason and the car hit a concrete median barrier on the left, then overturned and slide across all traffic lanes and hit a concrete barrier to the right.
The news report said Ness was pronounced dead at an area hospital, and state police reported Ruiz was hospitalized and is in serious condition. The crash caused all northbound lanes of the interstate to be closed for nearly four hours, according to The Chicago Tribune.
