SOUTH ELGIN, IL — A South Elgin man accused of pretending to be a firefighter is facing felony charges, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. According to a release, Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged 45-year-old Guy M. Landmeier, of the 0-100 block of South Conway Court, with false personation of a firefighter. According to charging documents, Kane County prosecutors claimed that on Monday, July 8, Landmeier falsely represented himself to be a firefighter of the Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District during a traffic stop, the state's attorney's office reported.

According to Sugar Grove police, officers stopped Landmeier around 8:15 p.m. Monday at Route 56 and Hankes Road in Sugar Grove, for a reported traffic violation, the state's attorney's office reported. Landmeier is accused of identifying himself as a firefighter and displaying a badge of the Rutland-Dundee Township Fire Protection District when he was questioned by police, and when police contacted officials at the fire protection district, they reportedly said the man last worked there in 2009 and therefore shouldn't have that badge.

Landmeier was released from custody Monday by Kane County Associate Judge Keith Johnson on Landmeier's promise to appear in court and surrender all items that identify him as a firefighter, according to the state's attorney's office.
