Teen Charged In 2018 Elgin Stabbing Now Faces Drug Charges
According to report, the teen was charged last week with delivery of 1 to 15 grams of a controlled substance within 1,000 ft. of a church.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A teen accused of a late 2018 stabbing at a house west of Elgin in unincorporated Kane County is now facing drug charges. According to the Daily Herald, 19-year-old Byron M. Shavers-Williams, of the 41W400 block of Lenz Road, was charged last week with delivery of 1 gram to 15 grams of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, on accusations he sold cocaine twice to undercover detectives in summer 2018, Kane County court records claim. According to the news report, the church in both cases was Immanuel Baptist Church, located at 500 St. Charles St., Elgin.
Shavers-Williams is free on bail, but is due in court May 23 on the drug charges.
According to the news report, the most severe charge of selling up to 15 grams is a felony charge punishable by six to 30 years in prison without the chance of probation.

The Daily Herald said Shavers-Williams' defense attorney Liam Dixon reported the drug cases were from allegations before Dixon was held in the stabbing case.

Patch reported back in December that the teen had been charged with armed violence, a Class X felony; aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony; and aggravated battery great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony, in the Dec. 17 stabbing of a 46-year-old man who Shavers-Williams knew.
The man was at a friend's home when Shavers-Williams came to the home in the 41W400 block of Lenz Road in unincorporated Elgin, and attacked the man. Patch reported police said Shavers-Williams and the man had gotten into an altercation prior to the attack, which happened about 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.
The man who was stabbed was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he was listed in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Shavers-Williams also faces six years to 30 years in prison on the armed violence charge, records show, according to the Daily Herald.
