Two Elgin Men Charged With Firearm Possession: Police
According to police, a person in a car pointed a handgun at another person in the area Sunday, leading to the arrest of two Elgin men.

ELGIN, IL — The Elgin Fire Department said two people accused of possession of a firearm were arrested Sunday after officers responded to the 600 block of Villa Street at 9:39 p.m. for a report of a subject with a weapon. When officers arrived, they learned a person in a car pointed a handgun at another person in the area, police said. According to the police department, officers were able to locate a car matching the description provided, and two people later identified as Freddy Garcia, 24, of the 600 block of Packard Drive, Elgin, and Antony Oliva, 22, of the 600 block of Hampton Court, Elgin.
Police said both Garcia and Oliva showed signs of intoxication, and officers found open alcohol and a loaded handgun.
"Thankfully Mr. Garcia and Mr. Oliva were taken into custody before anyone was hurt and in the process a handgun was recovered and removed from Elgin’s streets,” said Chief Ana Lalley, in a statement.

According to police, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized several charges against Olive, including of possession of a firearm by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and driving under the influence.
Authorized charges against Garcia include possession of a firearm by a street gang member, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
