$4.1M Lottery Ticket Sold In Chicago Suburbs

"While I have no idea who the winner is, I really hope it's one of our regular customers," the owner of the store that sold the ticket said.

ELMHURST, IL — A $4.1 million lottery ticket was recently sold in the west suburbs, according to the Illinois Lottery.

Jay’s Fresh Market, 1550 N. Mannheim Road in Stone Park, sold the winning ticket for the Sept. 28 Lotto drawing, which matched the numbers 1, 11, 15, 16, 34 and 41. Lotto is an Illinois-only game played three times a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

“When we first heard the news, we thought it was fake or a joke,” Minesh Patel, owner of Jay’s Fresh Market, said in a lottery news release. “But the morning after the drawing, a customer came in and said, ‘Did you see? Somebody won the Lotto jackpot last night and they bought their ticket here!’ That’s when we realized it was real – I was so surprised and excited.”

For selling the winning ticket, Jay’s Fresh Market will receive a one percent bonus of the prize amount, or $41,000, which Patel intends to use to increase security and technology to improve safety at the store.

“While I have no idea who the winner is, I really hope it’s one of our regular customers, most of whom we know by name,” Patel said in the news release.

The winner has one year from the date of the winning draw to claim their prize.
