Discrepancies In Elmhurst Church's Finances: Cops

An "active" investigation is pending, the police department says.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving financial theft at a church, a fired employee, domestic disturbances, a burglary, retail theft, threatening messages, harassment, a fallen tree and a found gun. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Financial theft

  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 W. Arthur St., became aware of discrepancies that led to the discovery of financial theft. Employees contacted the police. An "active" investigation is pending, police said.

Fired employee

  • An employee was let go Friday at Chicago Water and Fire Restoration, 720 N. Larch Ave. Management requested that he be served with a no-trespass notice. An officer told the person about the notice.

Domestic disturbances

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of West St. Charles Road. A woman told officers that another person pushed her several times during an argument. Officers could not find the other person. An investigation is pending.
  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of East Huntington Lane. Domestic battery charges are pending, police said.

Burglary

  • A man told police that someone entered his truck and stole his tablet and other items between 5 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Sunday at Super Ego Holding, a truck company at 677 N. Larch Ave.

Retail theft

  • Someone stole several bottles of alcohol shortly before noon May 6 at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The crime was reported eight days later. An investigation is pending.

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 500 block of South Sunnyside Avenue told police that he started receiving threatening messages after he realized that a potential client had sent him a fraudulent check. The resident later blocked the suspect and was advised to monitor his bank accounts.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Van Buren Street on Thursday reported receiving harassing calls from a former client. An officer contacted the suspect and told him to end communication with the resident.

Fallen tree

  • A tree fell on a woman's car during severe weather about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of South Fairview Avenue.

Gun found

  • An employee at Budget Rental, 890 N. York St., told police Saturday that he found a black Maverick 88 shotgun and a brown fleece jacket while cleaning out a rental. The items were placed into evidence.

Theft

  • A watch, earrings and cash were stolen at some point since July 4 at a house in the 200 block of North Maison Court. An investigation is pending.
