Distract-And-Steal Scam At Elmhurst Store: Cops

In another case, a car in Elmhurst was linked to a shooting in another suburb, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a distract-and-steal scam, a car linked to a shooting, a missing adult, domestic disturbances and harassing emails. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

District-and-steal scam

  • A customer at Mariano's, 678 N. York St., was distracted by one suspect shortly before noon Friday, while the other stole money and a wallet from her purse. An investigation is pending.

Car linked to shooting

  • About 3:30 p.m. Sunday at North and Glade avenues, an officer found a car wanted by Carpentersville police for its use in a shooting. The officer arrested the driver. The person was taken to the Carpentersville police station.

Stolen car

  • A heavily damaged Hyundai Elantra was found about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Fellows Court. Officers determined it was stolen in Forest Park. They notified Forest Park police of the car.

  • An 18-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 100 block of North Glenview Avenue was cited about 3 p.m. Sunday near his home on a charge of having an animal at large. Police said they helped in returning the dog to the man.

Vape pen

  • A woman told police Thursday that she found a vape pen in her son's room in their home on Elm Creek Drive. The son said it belonged to his older brother, who denied it. Officers were unable to find the vape pen. The older brother agreed to leave for the night.

Missing adult

  • An adult was reported missing Friday in the 600 block of South Cambridge Avenue. Officers found the man and took him back to his house.

Dispute

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Rex Boulevard told police Friday that his ex-wife refused to turn over his laptop after letting his daughter borrow it. The officer spoke with the ex-wife, who agreed to turn it over.

Domestic disturbance

  • Officers responded to a domestic disturbance about 11:30 p.m. Friday at Clarion Inn, 933 S. Riverside Drive. No arrests were made because of conflicting statements and no signs or injuries. Both parties were given no-trespass notices. They separated for the night.

Criminal damage

  • Police responded to a report of criminal damage to property about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of North West Avenue. An investigation is pending.

Harassing emails

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Third Street told police Sunday that she has received harassing emails. An investigation is pending.

Domestic battery

  • Police responded to a domestic battery about 10 p.m. Sunday at the Shell gas station, 654 W. North Ave. Police said a woman reported that another person grabbed her hand aggressively during a dispute. The suspect denied the allegation. An investigation is pending.
