Downtown Parking is Front and Center on Elmhurst City Council Agenda Monday

Aldermen also are slated to approve stormwater work.

Elmhurst aldermen are scheduled to hear an analysis Monday night on the current and future parking needs in the central business district.

The conclusion drawn in the consultants' report, which is available onBoardDocs, is that future development and new businesses expected to come to the downtown could result in a "potentially serious deficit" of parking during the afternoon hours.

Also on the agenda, alderman will vote to put the proposed Addison Avenue parking deck before the Zoning and Planning Commission again. Aldermen reached consensus last month that they want the commission to take another look at a six-story structure; current zoning only allows for four stories.

In June, the commission denied a request from developer Addison LLC/ARCO Murray for six stories. Zoning commissioners at that time said aldermen should focus on an overall vision for the downtown before seeking a variance for six stories.

They also want the commission to consider waiving the requirement for a loading dock on the property.

The meeting will include a public forum. Members of the audience will be able to speak for up to three minutes on any topic.

Also, the council will vote on about 20 items as part of the consent agenda. In addition to approval of minutes and accounts payable, the consent agenda includes the following items for approval:

  • Appointment of John Poulos and Tim Ricordati and reappointment of William Huber to the Economic Development Commission
  • Refer to the Public Works Committee a request to suspend applications for the rear-yard drain program until the stormwater management review is complete
  • State of Illinois joint purchase contract for rock salt
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade March 8
  • Renewal of employee health, dental, vision and life insurance contracts
  • Auction of seized vehicles
  • Fall Fest at York and Vallette Oct. 12
  • Contract with John Neri Construction to repair the storm and sanitary sewer at McKinley and Sunnyside
  • Variance for 666 S. Hillside for a porch
  • Conditional use permit for a proposed bank at 165 S. York
  • A series of resolutions for stormwater work

Aldermen will then hear reports and recommendations from Mayor Steve Morley and City Manager Jim Grabowski, as well as the parking study presentation, and they will vote on sending the Addison parking deck variances to the Zoning Commission.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. (following an executive session to discuss pending or threatened litigation and employment issues) at City Hall, 209 N. York St.
