ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst School District 205 may settle with a teacher who claimed officials retaliated against her after she appealed a one-day suspension.

York High School teacher Kelly DeLoriea received the discipline after the district accused her of revealing information about the child of her critic, conservative activist Tom Chavez, on social media.

In an email Thursday, John Brosnan, an attorney with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, informed Patch on the status of the case. A hearing had been set for Wednesday and Thursday.

"The parties are working on settling the case and jointly requested to continue the hearing so as to attempt to complete the settlement, so I will be cancelling the hearing dates for next week and awaiting developments," Brosnan said.

In a complaint in August 2023, the local union, Elmhurst Teachers Council, alleged retaliation.

In addition to the one-day suspension DeLoriea had already served, the union contended the school board gave her a public reprimand in the form of a "notice to remedy." The discipline, the district said, was because DeLoriea revealed information about Chavez's child. Chavez complained to the district.

Patch left messages for comment with DeLoriea and the district Thursday.
