Elmhurst Express Trolley Service Returns for Summer 2016

Free weekend trolley services in the city will resume June 3.

Elmhurst, IL - The Elmhurst Express, a free summer trolley service first introduced last summer, will return to the city in June to help people connect to local shopping, the Elmhurst Public Library and the Elmhurst Art museum.

City Council members approved the trolley plan in a 13 to 1 vote, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 34-passenger, wheelchair accessible, open-air trolley car will be in service from June 3 to Sept. 18, according to village board documents. The service will run Fridays from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 11:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Three stops will be in downtown Elmhurst, one will be in the Spring Road shopping area, one will be near York and Vallette streets and one will be near the Elmhurst Public Library and Elmhurst Art Museum, the Tribune reported.

The city's no-bid contract for $40,000 is with Hudson Group, Ltd., doing business as The Trolley Car Company of Bensenville, according to board documents. The same company provided last year's trolley service.
