ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin on Monday thanked the Elmhurst police for their handling of Saturday's demonstration against President Donald Trump.

He did not mention the purpose of the protest, but said the police department kept the public safe during the gathering and march.

"I also want to thank the organizers and volunteers who coordinated the event," the mayor said at a City Council meeting.

He recalled the local Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

"I used to tell people it was kind of unusual when we had social protests after the George Floyd incident that when people were leaving, they were shaking hands with our police officers," Levin said. On Saturday, "one of the chants was 'Thank you, EPD' or 'Thank you, Elmhurst police.' I think that's quite remarkable and says a lot about our police department."
