The study points out that real estate in Elmhurst often ranks among the most expensive in both Illinois and America. But the city is a good choice for families because they’re likely to develop social ties in the community, and the crime rate is lower than the national average.

Elmhurst public school districts also got a shout-out for contributing to academic success.

Several other Illinois cities also landed on the safe cities list, such as Lake in the Hills (No. 6), Wheaton (No. 21), Palatine (No. 59) and Carol Stream (No. 69), just to name a few.

East St. Louis topped the list of the 100 most dangerous cities in the country.
