Elmhurst Refuse and Recycling Fees Adjusted for 2016-17

Elmhurst, IL - Elmhurst residents can expect to see higher city billing rates for refuse and recycling services for the 2016-17 contract period.

The Elmhurst City Council approved rate changes Feb. 16 that effect 65 and and 95 gallon container service, refuse stickers and yard waste stickers.

The city refuse and recycling billing rates are made up of two parts: (1) monthly service charges from Republic Services and (2) city administrative fees, which cover leaf pick up, street sweeping and the program administration, according to a report by the Public Works and Buildings Committee.

The current five-year Republic Services contract, which began in 2013-14, includes annual rate increases in the monthly service charges.

On top of those rates, the monthly city administrative fees for the 2015-16 contract period included a $1.34 fee for 65 gallon containers and a $1.92 fee for 95 gallon containers, along with a $0.67 fee for refuse stickers and a $0.67 fee for yard waste stickers, according to the report.

The committee proposed the city administrative fees be made equal for all users, regardless of container size.

The proposed monthly city administrative fee amount for the 2016-17 contract period (April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017) was $1.55 for 65 gallon containers and $1.55 or 95 gallon containers, with a $0.57 fee for refuse stickers and a $ 0.57 fee for yard waste stickers, according to the report.

The proposal was signed by Jim Kennedy, Marti Deuter and Patrick Wagner, but it was not signed by Michael Bram.

The recommended city billing rates, which include the contracted Republic Services service charge and the adjusted administrative fees, come out to:

• 65 gallon toter: $17.12
• 95 gallon toter: $22.17
• Refuse sticker: $3:25
• Yard waste sticker: $3:25

The council approved the recommendation 13 to 1.
