Obituary: Velva (Val) Theresa Sahorak Petracek, 66

Velva (Val) Theresa Sahorak Petracek, 66, died on Thursday, April 11, at her home, under the care of hospice. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, friends and her loyal dog, Otis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Petracek. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie T. Haljean-Hanssen; her son, Donald Petracek; and her grandchildren, Lexus and Taylor Hanssen, and Jacob Entwistle.

Val was always a hard worker and loved her job at Aurelio's Pizza in Oakbrook Terrace, where she was very fond of her co-workers and they become known as her friends. She loved the outdoors, her neighbors and all the friends her children would bring into her life. She had a wonderful way of making everyone feel welcome in her home. She also enjoyed spending time at Villa Park VFW Hall, where she made many friends.

Even as she fought cancer with all her willpower, she still never lost that sparkle in her eye. She cracked jokes with everyone until her final day. Her charm and quick wit will truly be missed by everyone with whom she crossed paths. May she rest in peace.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 545 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. A funeral Mass will immediately follow.
