School Board will Vote on Stadium Resolution to Keep Agreement Alive for Future Admins

Elmhurst Unit District 205 School Board is set to approve formal guidelines for the use of the football stadium at York High School.

Use of the stadium, Clarence D. East Field, caused friction between community members and school administrators early in 2011 due to excessive noise, and stadium lights shining into homes late into the night, among other complaints. The Elmhurst Zoning Commission eventually came up with a policy for use of the stadium's public address and light systems, and an anonymous donor came forward with $150,000 to pay for new lights that don't "spill" into neighbors' windows.

Early this year, members of the York Community Advisory Council, a group of parents, District 205 employees and neighbors formed to help work through the controversy in 2011, told Superintendent David Pruneau the agreement they worked out back then should be written out for future administrations so that the intent and the guidelines in the agreement wouldn't be lost. 

Staff drafted a "Resolution Affirming Philosophy, Priorities and Guidelines" for use of the York Stadium, which will be up for approval by the School Board Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday's agenda, the board will review updated student achievement performance indicators and discuss matters of residency.

The Policy and Performance Management committees will present updates, and the board will be asked to approve donations to Jackson, Emerson and Lincoln schools.

Members of the public will be invited to speak for up to three minutes on any topic. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., and will be held at the district administration building, 162 S. York.
