Today is the 10-year Anniversary of Elmhurst Public Library's Grand Re-opening

It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since Elmhurst Public Library moved from the Wilder Mansion to its current, state-of-the-art building. Come celebrate.

It's hard to believe, but today, Friday, Oct. 4, is the 10th anniversary of the grand opening of the "new" Elmhurst Public Library building. Join friends and staff members on Friday for a host of activities to celebrate this milestone. All activities are free and open to library cardholders. 

Behind-the-Scenes Guided Tours

9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.: Tours leave every half hour from the Welcome Desk.

Get up close with the automated sorter, learn about environmental efforts, and sneak a peek at brand new books not yet on the shelves.

Happy Birthday Storytime

10-10:30 a.m.: Storytime Room
Enjoy stories about celebrations for the whole family. Kids under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

Kids’ Book Walk

11 a.m., and 2 to 3 p.m.: Storytime Room
Walk the Book Walk as music plays. When the music stops, you could win a prize.

Kids’ Pin the Candle on the Cake

Noon to 1 p.m.: Storytime Room
Take your turn and see if you can cover our cake with candles.

Kids’ Make & Take Crafts

1-2 p.m.: Storytime Room
Drop in and make a small craft to celebrate.

Ballroom Dancing Variety Showcase

2-3:15 p.m.: Large Meeting Room
Drop in to this open showcase to see the popular duo Norm & Heidi Lucky perform popular ballroom dances, such as foxtrot, tango, samba, Tennessee Waltz and more.

Open LEGO Birthday Building

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Large Meeting Room
Make a birthday creation to celebrate the day!

Mix and Mingle Reception

4-5 p.m.: Large Meeting Room
Enjoy treats and discuss the history of EPL with library staff, friends and board members.

Exhibit: A Short History of Nearly Everything In This Place

Oct. 4-31: Second Floor, near main staircase
Explore how the “new” building started as a small idea and blossomed into the award-winning facility it is today. See never-before exhibited photos of the construction process, what 10 years of change look like, and the events that shaped the building during the past decade.

Letterboxing Scavenger Hunt

Oct. 4-31: Find the clues at the Kids’ Help Desk.
