2-Vehicle I-57 Crash In Matteson Kills Chicago Man

Two other people were hurt in the accident, which happened Friday morning.

MATTESON, IL — A Chicago man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Matteson, according to the Chicago Tribune. Dean Scalzitti, 51, of the 2900 block of East 103rd Street, died after the car he was driving hit another vehicle traveling north along I-57, then slammed into trees and ending up in a ditch off the road, the report stated. The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger in Scalzitti's car were hurt in the accident and hospitalized, the report added.

According to the Illinois State Police, the crash happened at around 8:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, near Vollmer Road, the report stated. The Cook County medical examiner's office told the Tribune that Scalzitti, who lived in the South Deering neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 9:06 a.m.

Police did not give a reason for the accident, and it wasn't clear if anyone was cited in the crash, the Tribune reports.
