Easter is Going to the Dogs in Frankfort Township
Family and Pet Easter Spring Fling is coming up.
It seems in Frankfort Township that Easter is going to the dogs and cats. It's all part of the fun. So in the words of Neil Diamond "pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone come" to the second annual Family and Pet Easter Spring Fling.
The event is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30 at 9434 W. LaPorte Road, Mokena.
Dogs, cats and other pets are welcome. They must be leashed or in a carrier, and each animal must have a current rabies vaccination tag or certificate.

There will be an Easter egg hunt for kids and their pets, an inexpensive micro-chipping service, vendors, speakers and raffle prizes. Hot dogs, of course, will be offered for lunch at no charge.
"The Spring Fling is a lot of fun for people and pets, but it's also is a way for township residents to get to know Animal Control Officer Karen Zobjeck. She cares about animals and their owners.

And she’s not the stereotypical dog catcher," a Frankfort Township spokesperson said.
Zobjeck said, “We want people to understand that we are here to help them. If a pet becomes lost, we want to reunite the owner and the pet. We are not here to cause problems with their pets. We want them to come to me with any pet-related issue, and I will do my best to help.”
Among the list of vendors are: trainer Eve Zurawaski of Downers Grove-based K-9 Fitness, NAWS, the National Animal Welfare Society , 10080 W. 191st St. in Mokena and Lincolnway Animal Hospital, Matteson.
Zurawski is expected to show pet owners new ways to keep their dogs in peak physical condition without going to a dog park. “Dogs can get bored, and boredom leads to bad behaviors,” Zurawaski said. “Dogs also can become overweight, and it is important to keep them physically fit. I can show them easy exercises to do to keep their dogs active at home.”
A NAWS representative will be on-hand to offer micro-chipping at a reduced rate. When a pet is micro-chipped, a tiny device the size of a grain of rice is implanted just below the skin. If a pet wanders away from home, the micro-chip can be checked to determine the owner.
Lincolnway Animal Hospital's Melody Housh has plans to demonstrate basic first aid techniques for pets.
“We can explain how to bandage a minor cut, and we have handouts explaining how to do CPR on your pet,” Housh said.
Animal hospital staff will be giving away a pet first aid kit. Other raffle prizes will be given away throughout the day including Easter baskets for the kids.
Frankfort Township Supervisor Jim Moustis said, “Come to the Spring Fling, have lunch, meet your local animal control officer. This is just one of the many ways that Frankfort Township government is here for you.”
