Frankfort's German Heritage Festival is May 4
Traditional German music, yodeling, ethnic food and more are features for the whole family at the German Heritage Festival.
The German Heritage Festival organizing committee has arranged for a day of gemutlichkeit, good times with friends, said Kathy Kruss, vice president of the Frankfort-Mokena German-American Heritage Society.
The festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. May 4 at the German-American Heritage Society, 25249 Center Road, Frankfort, IL 60423 (on Center Road between Dralle and Monee-Manhattan Roads.) Admission is free. This annual family event features traditional music, dancing, and entertainment for all ages, along with bratwurst, pretzels and beer. There will be raffles throughout the day too.
Kruss said Peter and his alpenhorn is scheduled to entertain with singing and even yodeling. He'll perform selections on the accordion, cowbells and the alpenhorn. Meet the Prince and Princess of the German Mardi Gras Society along with their courtly entourage, added Kruss. The German-American community recognition ceremony begins at 4 p.m. The headline band is the "Phenix." Kruss said she particularly enjoys the band's ability to "mix it up with their crowd-rocking covers and traditional German music."
